w&w 1st birthday bash | mood board challenge

Happy 1st Birthday winnie & walter!!! I'm back with my final challenge in honor of your birthday celebration!! I had an absolute BLAST playing along with the challenges that you offered on your blog as part of  your big birthday bash...

I participated in 9 out of 10 challenges, and I loved every single one!! I am determined to incorporate more stamping into my projects and break away from my card making of old, which I believe has rendered my style very passé. It has been a breath of fresh air to use all of my favorite winnie & walter stamps on these cards, and as I am eyeing the new w&w January release, there are MANY more products that I want to add to my paper crafting arsenal!!
So, on to the challenge...
Here is the mood board challenge that we got to work from....

Love it! I chose several elements from the mood board to use on my card: the blackboard, the glittery block style 'cheers' letters, the sparkly magenta pink fringe, the gold polka dot overlay on the dress, the spattering of gold confetti the girl is blowing into the air, and the general theme of 'gold'.

And here is what I created...
squeeal.... I actually LOVE how this turned out!!
I LOVED working with this mood board, and I definitely want to use this type of prompt again to design cards!
Thank you for the AMAZING challenges during your birthday celebration, winnie & walter, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself!! Wishing you MANY more successful birthdays!!!

Supplies used:
'love' stamp from The Big, the Bold, and the Happy set by winnie & walter, Zing gold embossing powder American Crafts, Versamark watermark ink, WRMK sheer gold dot metallic vellum, MME chalkboard tag, GCD chipboard letters, Making Memories gold glitter, gold sequins, fuchsia glitter ribbon (Michael's), foam tape

w&w 1st birthday bash | distress inks and patterns challenge

Happy to be back with another winnie & walter challenge card in celebration of their 1st birthday!!
The challenge that I am undertaking here is the 'distress inks and patterns challenge'.
So, as I have mentioned before, I do not own many (any!) image stamps... note to self: need to start purchasing image stamps! So, I knew that I would have to create some sort of pattern with a sentiment... this is what I came up with:

On my card I used Ranger's mini distress ink in picked raspberry to stamp the winnie & walter stamp 'love' (from The Big, the Bold, and the Happy set) repeatedly to create the pattern that you see in the heart shape. I also inked the edges of all of the hearts with the distress ink, and also inked the the small Heidi Swapp color magic heart with the same distress ink.
I  heat embossed the 'you' winnie & walter sentiment (from The Big, the Bold and You set) in gold embossing powder (Zing American Crafts), fussy cut around the sentiment, and adhered it to the die cut arrow with foam tape. I edged the arrow with a gold Sharpie to add more definition (and gold!) to the project.  I spritzed some Heidi Swapp gold lamé color shine to add even more gold (gotta love gold!!) to the card ;) A few K&Co. puffy heart stickers finish off the design. (the papers are also Heidi Swapp from 6x6 pad Dreamy collection)

Another fantastic challenge to get me thinking outside of the box and get me more accustomed to stamping!! Thank you for the inspiration winnie & walter!!

w&w 1st birthday bash | collage challenge

happy happy 1st birthday winnie & walter!! I'm still having a blast with your celebration... these challenges have really helped me get creative, just what I needed this past weekend!!!
This challenge is called the 'collage challenge' and this was the collage prompt that was provided:

Absolutely stunning. I had fun picking details out of the collage to pull supplies together to create my card. Here is what I created:

I chose the teal color from the scarf and the patterned white paper from the stone candlestick holders. The jute twine is a nod to the wooden tray. I 'tried', and I truly emphasize 't.r.i.e.d' to replicate the stamped sentiment in the collage photo, but I know that I failed miserably!! LOL I was going to redo the stamping, but I was running out of steam (this is the last challenge that I attempted), and decided to just throw in the towel! The white heat embossed layered birthday cake is a nod to the painted ornaments on the wooden tray and the snow in the reindeer photo. And the stars, well, I suppose they are self explanatory ;)
Truthfully, this is not my favorite card that I have ever made, but sometimes that happens, doesn't it? My mind formulated a concept, it seemed good at it's inception, but in the end it just didn't turn out as I would have liked. C'est la vie!! ;)

Thanks for the great collage inspiration winnie & walter!!

w&w 1st birthday bash | In rotation technique challenge

Still having a blast celebrating with winnie & walter for their 1st birthday!! This challenge is called the "In rotation technique challenge", in which you are to rotate a stamp to create a design.
Ok, so I will admit that it took me a minute or two to figure out what I was going to do for this challenge since again, I really only have sentiment stamps and this challenge would probably work best with image or shape stamps. So, I had to try to get creative with my sentiment stamps, and this is what I came up with:

I stamped the 'love' sentiment around the heart. It involved rotation, right? Does this count?! lol
Nonetheless, it was a fun challenge. It again challenged me to think outside of the box and do some stamping that I normally wouldn't do. Looking at the card now, I would like to go back and leave more space between the words, but I will definitely keep that in mind if I attempt this type of stamping again!!

Thanks for the inspiration winnie & walter!!

w&w 1st birthday bash | sketch challenge

If you know me, you know I love a good sketch. And lo and behold, another great challenge of the Winnie & Walter 1st birthday bash celebration is this fantastic sketch challenge....

I jumped right into this challenge, and here is my card:
I used the 'hello' stamp from The Big, the Bold, and the Happy set from winnie & walter. I heat embossed with black embossing powder.... messily :( ... isn't there a product out there that prevents the stray embossing powder from getting all over your project?! I really struggle with black embossing powder ruining my embossed sentiments - if anyone knows a product that can help with that, please leave a comment telling me all about it!! TIA!!

I really only own sentiment stamp sets, but one of my paper crafting goals this year is to branch out and try more image stamping! I die cut a circle in that yummy yellow/white/gold polka dot paper, and adhered the black embossed sentiment behind the die cut circle. The flower and leaf images here come from a (very) old Papertrey set, which I heat embossed with white embossing powder and then just mixed several inks and chalk inks until I got the desired color. I added the black dots in the flower center with a black Sharpie marker. The flower and leaves are adhered with foam tape. The 'gorgeous' and 'friend' strips are also heat embossed in black and adhered with foam tape for dimension.

Thanks for the great sketch w&w!!
(by the way, I'm having a BLAST celebrating with you!!)

w&w 1st birthday bash | color combo challenge

White, silver/gray, mint/aqua, and blue... sounds like a gorgeous color combo to me!! That is the color combination that Heather has challenged us to use as we continue to celebrate winnie & walter's 1st birthday!!
What I realllllllyyy wanted to do was just resubmit Heather's card, which is absolute perfection!! (I have long been a huge fan of Heather's work!!)
So, with Heather's gorgeous card as inspiration, I forged ahead with my own interpretation of the color combo challenge:

It seems that I can't get enough of the 'love' stamp from w&w The Big, the Bold, and the Happy set!! But Valentine's Day is soon approaching, so at least I will have my cards already made!! lol
Again, I fussy cut the love sentiment after I heat embossed it in white.
Aqua/mint is one of my favorite colors to work with, so I am grateful that this challenge provided me the opportunity to play with such a great color combination!! Thanks again for the inspiration winnie & walter!!

w&w 1st birthday bash | freestyle collage CAS challenge

Still partying with winnie & walter for their 1st birthday bash!! This next challenge was a freestyle collage in the clean and simple style - a very cool concept, I like it! Although all said and done, I'm not even sure if I did it right - LOL!!
Here is my attempt at CAS freestyle collage:
I think I might have too much 'collage' going on here to keep it CAS... what do you think? I have always been fond of the collage style, just never really thought I pulled it off the right way!
It was a great challenge to pull me out of my comfort zone, thanks w&w!

Supplies used:
stamps from The Big, the Bold, and the Happy set by winnie & walter; white and black cardstock from Hobby Lobby; Tim Holtz mini distress inks picked raspberry, mustard seed, peacock feathers; Heidi Swapp clear stars, polka dot stencil; chipboard gold stars; MME die cut frame; MAMBI banner die cut; die cut circle

w&w 1st birthday bash | the 'one' challenge

Back with another winnie & walter 1st birthday bash challenge attempt! This time I am trying my hand at the 'one' challenge. Here are the challenge details :

'Make a new project using the number 1 or one, one color, one pattern, one layer, one embellishment, one photo, one word or one stamp set (and so on)...really anyway to incorporate one into your project!  You can focus on a single option or combine the options (for instance a one layer card using one color + one embellishment).'

How fun does that sound?!

So... here is what I ended up with: one stamp, one layer, one embellishment.

I again chose to use the 'love' stamp from w&w's The Big, the Bold, and the Happy set, this time heat embossed in white. I just love this scripty font!! I
To create the card, I strategically cut the 12" x 12" piece of paper so that the red heart would be centered on the card, rounded the edges, and adhered it to a red card base measuring 5" square. I realized as I was tackling these challenges that I really don't own any background or image stamps, my stamp collection consists solely of sentiments - I think I am going to have to branch out a little bit this year and try some non-sentiment sets! Back to the card... I adhered a chipboard heart to the card front. After stamping the sentiment in black cardstock, I heat embossed with white embossing powder, then fussy cut the sentiment (my favorite! I love fussy cutting!!) - and adhered it to the card front with foam tape.
I really like the bold colors and simplicity of this card, thanks w&w for another fun challenge!!

w&w 1st birthday bash | shaker challenge

happy happy 1st birthday Winnie & Walter!! I absolutely love this new little company, and am so happy to celebrate along with them as they celebrate their first birthday!!
They have challenged their fans to create a shaker card
I was super excited to get busy on this challenge as I have never before attempted a shaker card!! I gathered my supplies, tried a few things that just didn't work out, made a few adjustments, and ended up with this:
My first shaker card! Pretty proud of this little guy, if I do say so myself! It took me quite a while to figure this one out for some reason, but I am definitely happy that I tried this new to me technique! Thanks w&w for the inspiration to try something new! I definitely see more shaker cards in my future ;)

Cure for the Monday Blues Challenge #40

hello hello!!
Playing along with my first Cure for the Monday Blues Challenge which is hosted by my awesome friend Taheerah :)
I fell in LOVE with the inspiration photo and was immediately inspired to create!
This is what I came up with:
I was inspired by the photo in many ways, particularly the color palette, but also used the positioning in the photo itself as sort of a 'sketch' for my card... I used a large die cut circle, made fishtail banners that were a nod in style and color to the shelving unit, pulled the gold from the lamp, and the pinkish polka for paper resembles the rug on the floor. This was a fabulous challenge, thanks for the inspiration Taheerah!!
