freshly made sketches #285 and color throwdown #440

hello hello & happy monday!!
here today with another challenge card -
I designed a card based on the following challenges:

And here is my card:

So... if you know my card making style you would know what a challenge this card was for me!! lol
I am not much of a stamper. I am not very good at CAS cards. My interpretation of sketches is usually very literal. That being said, I think I was successful in really stepping outside of my comfort zone with this card!

I watercolored the yellow swatch on the background panel. The flowers and leaves were each stamped with the same color ink - first with a watered down distress ink, then over the top with the same color distress ink, but not watered down... I'm sure that's nothing new, but it was a new to me technique ;)
The points of the leaves reminded me of the points on the star in the sketch... yep, I said I interpreted sketches literally, didn't I?! lol

I really enjoyed both the color challenge (I don't usually use purple) and the sketch challenge!!

thanks for stopping by!

case this sketch #219

Back today with another sketch challenge card!!

Thought I'd play along with the latest sketch challenge at Case This Sketch, challenge #219

Here is my card:

My interpretation may seem a little unorthodox, but let me explain... in some strange way when I saw that spikey shape, it reminded me of the very scripty 'happy birthday' sentiment from Simon Says Stamp's 'Big Scripty Greetings' set ... so I used that stamp and then the rest of the card just fell in place behind it!

Speaking of Simon Says Stamp... I am also linking this card up for their current Wednesday challenge, themed 'Anything Goes'

I am so happy to be back playing with paper and stamps!!!
thanks for stopping by!!

reverse confetti SFYTT #47

Back again with another challenge after my 14 month hiatus from paper crafting!!
It felt AMAZING to get back in my studio and play with paper and ink this weekend. Thank goodness there were some awesome challenges that I could attempt in an effort to get back into the swing of things and challenge my creativity!

I have always been a fan of sketch challenges, was even a member of several sketch challenge design teams back in the day ;) ... and I have always been a fan of the SFYTT sketches, so it was a no-brainer to give this sketch a whirl!

Since I haven't been crafting in a while, I also haven't made any new scrappy purchases! So I dug out some oldies but goodies to throw this card together ;)

The patterned papers are by My Mind's Eye (I think?!) and the stamp is one of my favorites from Reverse Confetti's 'Shine From Within' set (psst.... I just saw that this set is on sale right now!! Click the link and go get it for yourself!!).

So glad that I had the chance to get creative after such a long time... hopefully it won't be another 14 months before it happens again!!!

Thanks for stopping by!!

CAS(E) This Sketch #218

Back again with another challenge after my 14 month hiatus from paper crafting!!
It felt AMAZING to get back in my studio and play with paper and ink this weekend. Thank goodness there were some awesome challenges that I could attempt in an effort to get back into the swing of things and challenge my creativity!

I have always been a fan of sketch challenges, was even a member of several sketch challenge design teams back in the day ;) ... but if you know my style I'm not much of a CAS card maker, which is why it is important that I challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone and attempt CAS cards!

Enter CAS(E) This Sketch challenge #218

I love it! But immediately my mind starts thinking of layers and patterns and STUFF, not white space! lol
It was a challenge to think 'clean', but still maintain true to my style of bold and striking...
here is what I came up with:

I ended up designing a trio of cards. Yes, I used patterned paper (from Dear Lizzy Documentary collection - I just love that bold floral) because I am not one of those amazing stampers... yet!
But I kept clean lines, bold black and white color accents, and simple, strong stamped sentiments (Dina Wakley stamp set). I have to say, I kinda love how these turned out ;)

I really enjoyed the challenge to keep my design clean, I think I'm going to be trying this more often! Thanks for the inspiration CAS(E) This Sketch team!!!!

fusion challenge - truck bouquet

Back again with another challenge after my 14 month hiatus from paper crafting!!
It felt AMAZING to get back in my studio and play with paper and ink this weekend. Thank goodness there were some awesome challenges that I could attempt in an effort to get back into the swing of things and challenge my creativity!

I fell in love with the Fusion Truck Bouquet challenge as soon as I saw it... those flowers?! hello!!!

I was inspired by both the photo and the sketch - here is my design:

Did I say how much I fell in love with those flowers in that inspiration photo?! lol
I knew that I wanted flowers to take center stage on my card, so I designed my card around that concept. I decided to go with bold black stripes for the background design and the bold black and white contrast of the embossed sentiment strip to finish it off. And of course I had to add a touch of pizzazz with the glittery gold washi tape and the gold sequins - perfect finishing touch to a celebratory card. The papers were from Illustrated Faith 'She Blooms' collection and the stamp is from My Favorite Things 'Brushstroke Birthday' set.

So glad that I participated in this challenge - it really was a great catalyst to get my creative juices flowing again!!! Thanks Fusion team for the inspiration!!

Thanks for stopping by!!

the Card Concept challenge #71

Back again with another challenge after my 14 month hiatus from paper crafting!!
It felt AMAZING to get back in my studio and play with paper and ink this weekend. Thank goodness there were some awesome challenges that I could attempt in an effort to get back into the swing of things and challenge my creativity!

Saw this card challenge by The Card Concept  and immediately fell in love!!

I was inspired by so many items in the inspiration photo when I was designing my 'shabby chic' card!!

Elements from the photo that I drew into my card include the following: the woodgrain, the doily, the color blue, the white flowers, the butterfly, and the shininess of the plate (I used sequins to reflect that). Love how this one came together!

Freshly Made Sketches #284

Back again with another challenge after my 14 month hiatus from paper crafting!!
It felt AMAZING to get back in my studio and play with paper and ink this weekend. Thank goodness there were some awesome challenges that I could attempt in an effort to get back into the swing of things and challenge my creativity!

I played along with the latest challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches -
Here is Freshly Made Sketch #284

And my interpretation of it:
I have been itching to use my (new to me) My Favorite Things sympathy stamps for quite some time now. The leaf stamps I think are from a set from Simon Says Stamp. The paper is ancient and is by My Mind's Eye.  I made several of these so that I  had some on hand to either use or give away when friends say that they need a sympathy card.

Thanks for stopping by!
