color throwdown #378

hello  hello!
I played along with color throwdown #378
I just love these colors together!
Here is my card:
I pulled together some patterned paper scraps that fit in with the color challenge - red, blue, pink, and gray; stamped the 'love' sentiment on a MFT die cut stitched fish tail piece; and played with some red distress ink to create the background for the hearts that I fussy cut as embellishments for the card.
The card design was based on Mojo Monday sketch #433

but, yet again, I missed the deadline for linking up to that sketch challenge ;) LOL!
Hopefully I will be on time this week ;)
Thanks for stopping by!

simon says: have a heart

it's friday. that makes me one VERY happy person.
it means that I have two days to play in my studio!! :)

last night I made a card for the latest simon says stamp wednesday challenge
and the

Here is my card....
I started with a white cardstock base and added a panel of bold pattered paper from the Documentary collection by American Crafts, then watered down some red dye ink and flicked it off a paint brush onto the card base. I created a little cluster of goodies for interest, including the yummy sentiment from Reverse Confetti's Posted Note Sentiments stamp set. The stitched rectangle dies are from MFT, the doily and heart from Michael's, and I die cut the little glitter hearts with the holiday shapes hearts and stars die from Simon Says Stamp.

Thanks for visiting!
until next time...

blog hop for Cox family (and a giveaway!)

Welcome to my stop on the hop!
Today a group of paper crafters from all across the map have come together in support of one of our fellow card makers - Ann Kelly Cox.

Ann and I have been 'online friends' for quite a while now, and we finally had the chance to meet in person at CHA -Chicago back in 2010....

In addition to card making and sharing a dry sense of humor, we have always had a 'connection', as she lives in the town where I was born - Normal, Illinois.
The one thing we DO NOT have in common, however, is our taste in baseball teams... in that regard, we are bitter rivals... LOL
However, her husband Kevin is also a huge Cubbies fan, so although I've never met him, I enjoy jumping into the 'house divided' riff on Facebook and lend my support to his side of the battle ;)

So why the need for support for this family?
For the answer to that, I will send you here (click on link below photo):

The blog hop is our effort to rally support, financial as well as spiritual, for this young, loving family during their sudden current medical situation and the financial effect it is bringing upon them. The paper crafting community is well known for its unwavering support of its fellow crafters, and we are hoping to encourage that thoughtful, caring spirit and support our fellow crafting friend, Ann, and her precious family.
So if you feel compelled, please consider a donation to their Go Fund Me account, and please share the link with anyone who might be inclined to help a young family in need. My donation has been made, and the Cox family remains in my thoughts and prayers during Kevin's recovery process and the adjustments forced upon their family.

I created a simple card of encouragement for this hop, using my new "By Your Side" stamps and die from Concord & 9th
About the card: I added black and white striped patterned paper to the top of the card and a block of white cardstock to the bottom so that I could add a sentiment. I die cut the birds on a branch from a scrap of turquoise cardstock. After stamping the sentiments, I watered down some raspberry distress ink and flicked it off of a paintbrush on to the card. I added some gold glittered flags to the heart and some gold sequins to add additional interest.

Commenting below will make you eligible for the blog hop prizes, which you can learn about HERE.
I have also decided to offer a personal giveaway to express my gratitude to those who DONATE to the Funds for the Cox Family, leave a comment below telling me that you have donated, and you will be eligible for a little something, something from me:
I will draw a winner on Thursday, Feb 11th.

Now, please go and enjoy the rest of the hop! Some other paper crafters are hosting personal giveaways along the hop as well, go see!

fusion: woodgrain neutral

hello!
Played along with the latest Fusion challenge:
I followed the sketch and was inspired by the photo as well, by using woodgrain, polka dot pattern and script pattern flowers, and distress inking my paper edges, as was done in the inspiration photo. I added a few woodgrain sequins for an additional nod to the woodgrain theme ;)

I kept the color scheme neutral, again inspired by the inspiration photo. The sentiment stamp is from Simon Says Stamps 'Hand Lettered Winter Wishes' set. The flowers were die cut using some flower dies that I had lying on my craft table... I don't remember the manufacturer, sorry! (I really need to clean off my work space.. it's a jumbled up mess!)
Such a great challenge, glad that I had the chance to play along!!
Thanks for stopping by!

CASology: adore

Hello there!
Today I'm sharing a card that I made for the latest challenge on the CASology blog:
In addition to the actual challenge spelled out on the cue card, the biggest challenge for me might be to remain CAS!! I LOVE the look of CAS cards, and greatly admire the designers who are able to exhibit such restraint in their designs and who embrace white space... I try my best, but usually fail miserably with layers and embellishments!! LOL
So, here's my card... I sort of 'adore' how it turned out!!
I recently purchased the 'By your side' stamp set from Concord & 9th, and have been eager to try it out - this challenge gave me the perfect opportunity!! If you know me, you know I am a huge sucker for unique sentiment stamps - when I saw this set, I knew right away that I had to had to have it!! I see myself using this set A LOT!! As for the rest of the card, I kept it simple by using a graphic patterned paper from Crate Paper's 'Hello Love' collection, and since I was at work when I created this card (shhh... don't tell!) I didn't have any other supplies with me, so I simply fussy cut a few hearts from a complementary paper to embellish the card.
This was a great challenge - glad that I got to play along! I'm also linking this up with Simon Says Stamp's 'Work It Wednesday' challenge, since I used my brand new Concord & 9th stamps :)
Thanks for visiting!

Little Tangles challenge 64: hello

Hello.
Couldn't resist playing along with Little Tangles Challenge 64

Here is the card that I created for the challenge-
I just love Neat and Tangled's stamps! I used the heart stamp from the Heart of Gold set, and played around with pink distress inks to watercolor the heart. The sentiments are from the Everyday Labels set.

Reverse Confetti January sketch for you to try

Well that was quite the card making hiatus!! Glad to be back in my studio creating again!
I was inspired by the latest SFYTT on the Reverse Confetti blog
here is the card that I created:
I used a sentiment from Reverse Confetti's 'God is Good' stamp set.
I miss playing with patterned paper, so I went to town with mixing and matching patterns on this card ;).
Until next time...
